2020 NLCS: The Dodgers survive another day with 7-3 win over the Braves in Game 5

The Los Angeles Dodgers come into Game 5 of the National League Championship Series trailing 3-1 in the series against the Atlanta Braves as they stay alive and force a Game 6 on Saturday afternoon.

The Dodgers offense has been a major problem here in the playoffs with mostly everyone struggling including the Dodgers highest payed player outfielder Mookie Betts and as well as 2019 National League MVP Cody Bellinger. Two of the best hitters in baseball aren’t having the success everyone expected but that is not the only reason why they have been struggling in the playoffs, let’s not forget Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts.

There has been a hand full of times when Dave Roberts makes a crucial decision which ends up in a loss by the Dodgers. I won’t be surprised if the Dodgers pull the plug on Dave Roberts this off season. This team is talented and sometimes, players don’t get motivated to play hard and efficient when they are not happy with the leadership of the Manager which in this case, it seems like his poll numbers are falling to returned as Manager of the Dodgers next season.

Dodgers rookie pitcher Dustin May was given the start here in Game 5 which I am not upset about. May is the future of the Dodgers and even some people believe he can be better than the other young pitcher of the Dodgers in Walker Buehler. Dustin May got in some trouble in the first inning which allowed the Braves to get the first run here in Game 5. He has thrown 40 pitches through 1 1/3 innings which he also got in trouble in the 2nd inning allowing another run on a single from rookie CF Cristian Pache. Dodgers P Dustin May found a way to get out a tough inning by striking out Freddie Freeman.

Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts brings in Joe Kelley to start the 3rd inning trailing 2-0, another bold move by Roberts here in the playoffs. This is a clear move that Dave Roberts is panicking here in the 3rd being down 2-0 which is not much in baseball. Dodgers challenged a sac fly by the Braves as Ozuna left 3rd base a little to early which was counted as the 3rd out of the inning.

Dodgers SS Corey Seager began the 3rd inning with a lead of home run to straight away center as the Dodgers get on the board here in Game 5 of the NLCS. This was Seager’s third home run of the playoffs as he has been the most consistent players for the Dodgers.

In the top of the 6th, the Dodgers found a way to get two men on base with two outs and a full count and the Dodgers young catcher Will Smith hits a three run home run to give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead here in Game 5 of the NLCS.

Dave Roberts decides to bring in relieve pitcher Pedro Baez in the bottom of the 6th inning after a rough outing for him in Game 2 of the NLCS as he comes in and gets all three outs in a row.

As the Dodgers open the 7th inning with a 4-2 lead as Dodgers outfielder Chris Taylor gets a double in the gap then Mookie Betts drives him in as the Dodgers take a 5-2 lead then seconds later Corey Seager, the most consistent player thus far hits his second home run of the game and gives the Dodgers a 7-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 7th of Game 5 of the NLCS.

The Dodgers ended up cruising their way into the 9th inning until Dodgers Manager made the move to bring in Kenley Jansen to save this crucial Game 5. Jansen looked so comfortable coming in to the game as hes been heavily criticized in the past weeks about his performance in clutch moments which in this case he has a 4 run lead as the Dodgers Win Game 5 and force a Game 6 Saturday afternoon 4:30ET/1:30PT on FS1.
