The Dodgers have won the division seven years in a row, now it’s time to take a look at what’s been missing in those seven years, a World Series trophy.
Through the past seven years in Los Angeles, we’ve seen a lot of winning but at the same time, loosing has been a problem for the past 2 years on the biggest stage of all, the World Series.
It seemed like the Dodgers had the Houston Astros in 2017 when LA hosted Game 7 of the World Series and got beaten by a young talented team. The many bad calls from manager Dave Roberts during the World series led to the biggest one of all. After game 6 of the 2017 World Series, manager Dave Roberts had the choice to start the greatest pitcher of this decade in Clayton Kershaw or newly acquired Yu Darvish. Kershaw was on a 2 day rest at the time but when it’s game 7 of the World Series and Kershaw is telling you he is ready to put it all on the line for you and you reject him and put Yu Darvish on the mound? I have no idea what was going through your mind in making that decision.
Clayton Kershaw was looking to repeat history and not just history but to bring a World Series trophy for the first time in 29 years, at the time.
In 1965, the Dodgers were heading to a game 7 in the World Series against the Twins and Sandy Koufax, one of the players that Kershaw gets compared too all the time, he made his 3rd start in 8 days to win the 1965 World Series.
When you are in the last game of the season, winner takes all, you have to put the your best guy out there no matter what. You have Clayton Kershaw in is prime, asking you that he is ready for game 7 after a 2 day rest and you say no to him and give the ball to another guy who just got here 2 months prior. This was Clayton Kershaw’s moment and they blew it.
Dave Roberts goes on and still brings in Kershaw into game 7 innings later after Yu Darvish blew the game wide open for the Astros.
A year later, the Dodgers advanced to the World Series again but this time it was against the Boston Red Sox. More bad calls led to the Boston Red Sox’s defeating the Dodgers in 5 games. The Dodgers enter this season looking to get back to the top but this time no falling short. As the Dodgers Clinched the division in Baltimore a couple of days ago, they said, they’re on a mission to win it all this time.
As much as I wanna believe that this year will be the year, I still believe it won’t be as easy as everyone thinks it’ll be. The dodgers have been the best team so far this year with players like Cody Bellinger leading the team all year long, Corey Seager back on the team after being out all year long last year. The team is healthy and confident that this will be the year. The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros will be the only 2 teams that will give the Dodgers a problem, as the Yankees beat the Dodgers 2 games out of 3 in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago.
The City of Los Angeles has been waiting for 31 years now, ever since Kirk Gibson helped the Dodgers in 1988 bring the last championship, these fans in Los Angeles have been craving this trophy.
The question I have been asked the most is ” Are the Dodgers gonna win it this year?” and I say ” Look, it’ll be very tough especially with Roberts managing but I have not seen a Dodger team this talented in years, so who knows what will happened. I can guaranteed you that if they don’t win it again in 3 years, it’s okay because with the team they have, they are young and stacked with players to be in the race to the championship for the next 5 years”.
