The New look Chargers led by head coach Brandon Staley opens up the 2021 season against the Washington Football Team in Washington.

In the opening drive for the Chargers as they received the ball, Justin Herbert had a terrific first drive as he threw 6/6 with 40 yards and Chargers RB Austin Ekler scores the first touchdown of the season.

One thing that caught my attention in the first quarter was the Chargers defense as they had multiple stops which only held the Washington Football Team to a single field goal. Chargers S Derwin James had a great stop on third down which is a major piece that was missed late in games last season.

The Washington Football Team scored their second field goal early in the second quarter as the Chargers were still leading 7-6. While the Chargers receivers have been making plays all game long, one guy who had a lot to stay during the offseason about his involvement in the system last year, Mike Williams, who is now making a statement early the first game of the season under new head coach Brandon Staley.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert has completed a pass to 9 different players in the first half which is a major reason why they have the lead in the first half.

The Washington Football Team got a major break by a late flag on the Chargers defense which allowed them to score another field late in the first half that cut the lead down for Washington 13-9. Not long after, the Washington Football Team scored a touchdown that gave them the lead 16-13.

In the 4th quarter, both teams have been playing tough as Justin Herbert threw a bad pass with 12:16 remaining in the game and was intercepted by Washington. Seconds later the Chargers forced a fumble as they recovered and scored a touchdown as they took the lead in the 4th 20-16.

Late in the 4th, the Chargers played amazing as Herbert continued completing passes to his receivers as Mike Williams and Keenan Allen made the Rookie of the Year look like the Rookie of the Year.

The Chargers got a few first downs to keep the ball late in the 4th quarter to win the first game of the season and Chargers Brandon Staley’s first career win as a head coach. Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Jared Cook all made plays to win this game along side of Justin Herbert.

We can now look forward to next Sunday with America’s team the Dallas Cowboys visiting the Chargers live from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles 4:25ET/1:25PT as the Chargers look to push the Cowboys to an 0-2 start on Sunday.
