Clippers dominate Game 1 against the Nuggets

September 3, 2020

Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi Finals between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers is underway here in Orlando, Florida as Clippers G Patrick Beverly makes his return back into the starting line up as he hits 2 quick three pointers from the corner right in front of his own bench.

Denver Nuggets F Jerami Grant gives his team 8 early points in the first 6 mins of the game with Jamal Murray adding 5 points while he seems in control of the game here in the first quarter. The Nuggets have been a good team in the past 2 years after the addition of Nuggets F Paul Millsap, with a veteran like him makes a major difference in a young team like the Nuggets with 2 young stars on the rise with Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.

As the first quarter was winding down both team have been playing great shooting 59% from the field as they go into the 2nd quarter tied at 31. Kawhi Leonard has been impressive so far in the first half as he’s added 10 points with 5-8 from the field. We all know Kawhi is a great player but can he really break the Clippers curse? The Clippers have NEVER made it out of the 2nd round of the NBA Playoffs in NBA History. I do not want to bet against 50 years of history as I said that last night on the newest episode of In The Front Row Show below.

The Clippers continued playing well so far as they take a 10 point lead late in the 2nd quarter with Kawhi Leonard leading all scorers with 17 points in 16 minutes. Montrezl Harrell has been the energy the Clippers needed in this game with his 5 points in only 8 minutes off the bench giving the Nuggets bench some trouble on both sides of the ball. Harrell made it to the NBA Bubble later than everyone else as he took care of a family emergency and returned right in time for the Playoffs. Towards the end of the 2nd quarter, the Clippers began to dominate as they took a 18 point lead going into halftime.

During the 3rd quarter the Clippers continued they’re dominance as they began shooting the lights out but one specific player really making his mark in this game has been Marcus Morris as he puts up 18 points from 4-5 shooting from three in 27 minutes thus far. The Clippers are dominating in every way in this game with outscoring the Nuggets in the paint by 22 points late in the 3rd. The Nuggets problem so far in this game has been they’re defense, players look confused and just completely out of this game heading into the 4th quarter.

This is just one game so far as this should be the way the Nuggets should be looking at this and start looking forward for Game 2 of this series on Saturday. Biggest key for the Nuggets should be rebounding the ball and playing team defense. I saw a handful of times where a certain player didn’t make the right rotation move on defense and allowed the Clippers to score on multiple possessions. The Nuggets are shooting 24.2% from the three point line thus far as they are down by 27 with 10:05 remaining in Game 1.

Nuggets C Nikola Jokic has been struggling thus far with only 15 points on 6-14 shooting in 30 minutes of play with no other Nuggets player with at least 20 points. Jamal Murray has also been having a bad game with 12 points on 5-15 shooting from the field in 33 minutes. The Clippers came out to make a statement in Game 1 as they take a 1-0 series lead and now wait for Game 2 to be played on Saturday 9ET/6PT on TNT.
