Clippers fold in Game 2 against the Nuggets: Series tied 1-1

September 5, 2020

The Denver Nuggets put Game 1 behind them and came out strong with a punch right in the mouth at the LA Clippers with a 23-9 run to start the game. Nuggets are shooting 70% so far in the first quarter with 3:12 remaining with Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic having a combined 23 points in the first 10 minutes.

The Nuggets continued playing this game with they’re foot on the pedal by going up 20 points late in the first quarter. Nuggets C Nikola Jokic shooting 3-3 from three with a total of 15 points. As the first quarter ends with Denver scoring a high of 44 points in the first quarter as they go into the 2nd quarter up by 19 points.

Slow start for the Clippers here in Game 2 as Paul George is shooting 3-9 with 9 points so far in the 2nd quarter and Kawhi Leonard’s 6 points. The Clippers so far have turnover the ball 9 times with 9:45 remaining in the 2nd quarter compared to 1 turnover by the Nuggets. During the 2nd quarter the Clippers seem to be a little lost on the defensive end while the Nuggets 2 young stars in Jokic and Murray have a combined of 29 points with 7:23 left in the first half. The Nuggets are shooting 8-15 from three so far while shooting 61.1% from the field as they lead the Clippers by 16. Clippers began to fight back and get in the game as they cut the lead down to 11 as the Nuggets call a time out late in the 2nd quarter. The Nuggets have missed 10 shots in a row until Jokic put a lay up in as they still lead by 13.

The Nuggets put up 72 points in the first half as the Clippers trail by 16 going into the locker room. Nuggets C Nikola Jokic leads with 24 points on 9-13 from the field.

In the beginning of the 3rd quarter both teams came out strong with the Clippers still trying to climb back into this game as they trail by 13 with 7:18 remaining in the 3rd. The Clippers have shot 5-18 from three so far with no player really stepping up until early in the 4th quarter when the Clippers made a small run to cut the lead to 7 then the Nuggets hit another three to take it back to 13 with 5:30 remaining in the game.

Clippers F Kawhi Leonard has been struggling in this game shooting 4-17 with only 13 points while his co-star Paul George has 22 points on 7-17 shooting. There has been so much talk on this Clippers duo who have been struggling bad with no answer against these Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semi Finals with 3:09 remaining and Nuggets up 101-91. Nuggets C Nikola Jokic has been dominating the Clippers on both sides of the ball as he has pilled up 26 points on 4-4 from three and 18 rebounds with 3 mins still remaining in this game.  Late in the game with the Clippers down 7, Kawhi Leonard was playing defense with his hands down while Jamal Murray hit a step back 3 in his face. I hope everyone holds Kawhi accountable to his play after this awful Game 2. If LeBron James would to have a game like that, he won’t even live to hear about it withing a few minutes from the whole world.

As the game was coming to an end, Clippers G Patrick Beverly was ejected from the game after complaining about a foul as we all know by now the style of game that Patrick Beverly plays. The Clippers seem to fold from the very beginning of the game as they never led in this game. Clippers fall in Game 2 against the Nuggets 110-101 with a game high for Jamal Murray with 27 points in 40 minutes of play. Game 3 is scheduled for Labor Day Monday 9ET/6PT on TNT.
