Kelsey’s Korner: Thats just DWAE it is!
Dwaylon Calhoun, known as DWAE (pronounced da-way), is an upcoming SoCal based recording artist that is steadily climbing up the Spotify charts. He has released 3 singles to date named Bag, Reason II Live, and DeMarcus featuring local artist YungTobyLilTee.
Growing up in Carson, California, DWAE was born into a household with a mother that loved to sing and father who had a bachelors degree in recording arts. This allowed Dwaylon to organically become musically inclined. Artists such as Drake, Kendrick, T-Pain, and Kanye, Wiz Khalifa, and Akon would mostly be found on Dwaylons playlist when he was in his teenage years.
Around the age of 16, DWAE started to self teach himself how to mix, engineer, and write music. This is all while playing basketball as well. During 2016 to 2018, he played for the El Camino College mens basketball team. Dwaylon, who is half Pilipino, also played in the Philippines collegiately in 2019.
DWAE gets his musical inspiration from Drake, who is known to switch up his flow to different styles, as well as A Boogie wit da Hoodie, who has melodic sounds. J Coles story telling style caught DWAEs ear as well. If you listen to DWAEs music, you can hear a combination of all of these styles. DWAE has a melodic rap sound and can be found on music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube.
