LeBron James leads the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals

September 12, 2020

Lakers come into Game 5 with just one win away from advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since Kobe Bryant’s Lakers in 2010 as they when on to win the NBA championship in 7 games against the Boston Celtics.

Once again the Lakers are showing us early in the 1st quarter that they are the best team in the NBA as they get off to another great start as they go on a 13-2 run and force the Rockets to call an early time out with 8:32 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Rockets are 1-7 from the field to start the game which is not the way you wanna start when you’re down 3-1 in a series. Lakers continue dominating this game early on as they quickly force the Rockets to call another time out with 5:54 still remaining in the 1st quarter as the Lakers lead 23-7. They have made 7 three pointers in the first 8 minutes with Lakers F Anthony Davis not attempting a shot so far in this game but has added 4 assists.

The defense the Lakers have been playing has only allowed 11 points on the board in the first 10 minutes for the Rockets. PJ Tucker has been struggling so far shooting 0-4 and Russell Westbrook shooting 1-4 with James Harden being the only one that is doing something for this Houston Rockets team with 7 points on 3-5 from the field. Rockets are on the verge of being sent home from the Playoffs if they don’t find a way to win this game.

Lakers F Kyle Kuzma has been an early spark for the Lakers as he gives them a quick 7 points as the Lakers lead the Rockets 42-31 early in the 2nd quarter. Lakers rookie Talen Horton-Tucker who made an impressive NBA Playoffs debut during Game 4 and has now entered the game. He is still 19 years of age after 1 year at Iowa State and now playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the NBA Playoffs as he goes on to score a nice floater for his first 2 points in the game.

The Rockets have been playing better in the 2nd quarter as they climb back into this one as they’re only down by 11 heading to the locker room with only 2 quarters remaining in they’re season if they don’t find a way to win this game.

Entering the 3rd quarter with the Rockets trailing as they been throughout the game, LeBron James has put his stamp on this game with 26 points 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Anthony Davis who had a slow start, now has 13 points 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Lakers G Danny Green has been key in this game hitting 4-6 from three with a total of 14 points thus far through 3 quarters. Rockets G Russell Westbrook has been off tonight with 8 points on 4-11 from the field and 0-3 from three as we enter the 4th quarter and maybe the final quarter for the Houston Rockets this season as the Lakers lead 95-69 at the end of 3 quarters.

The Lakers have 6 players in double figures in scoring entering the 4th quarter which means that they are moving the ball well as Rajon Rondo hits a 3 after a great swing pass from Markieff Morris to take a 101-71 lead early in the 4th quarter. LeBron James exited the game with 29 points 11 rebounds and 7 assists in 31 minutes in Game 5. The Rockets shot 11-39 in threes which is just depressing being a Rockets fan as the Lakers defense has held the Rockets to only 6 fast break points.

Lakers win Game 5 to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 10 years as they now wait for the Clippers or Nuggets which the Clippers lead the series 3-2 with Game 6 coming Sunday morning. LeBron well soon know who his opponent will be in a few days but in the meantime, it’s time to celebrate this great accomplishment especially this being his 17th year in the league and first with Anthony Davis.
