The new format in 2020 will allow the three teams with the worst records to each have a 14% chance at the #1 overall pick. Those teams are the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. In this years format, the Warriors will automatically have a top five pick due to having the worst record. This move is a good format by the NBA.
Other teams with high hopes of getting the #1 overall pick are the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks. Tonight is going to be a night to remember for the team that wins the #1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft which is scheduled for Friday, October 16 on ESPN. With this, the team that wins the lottery tonight will have a golden opportunity to draft a future Hall of Famer.
When I talked to LaMelo Ball’s manager and former NBA player Jermaine Jackson, I asked him how Ball has been able to genuinely grow up and become the great player he is now. Jackson said that LaMelo has been putting in the work everyday since he began coaching him in his senior year of high school. Ball attended Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio back in 2018. Furthermore, LaMelo Ball had the opportunity to play professionally in the NBL for the Illawara Hawks in 2019.
While they were both living together in Australia, Jackson said Ball was waking up at 3am in the morning to work out in the gym and run on the beach. Also, Ball takes nutrition seriously. He eats the right things to prepare his mind and body. Furthermore, Jermaine Jackson said the only thing on LaMelo’s mind right now is becoming a Hall of Famer. Just stop and think for a second, there is not one other kid who is thinking and training to become a Hall of Famer but LaMelo Ball is different.
I’ve been following LaMelo’s career since he became a freshman phenom in Chino Hills, CA. While in high school, he had the opportunity to play alongside both of his older brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo.
Once under the supervision of Jermaine Jackson in 2018, LaMelo began to fix his mindset transforming him into the great player he has become. Jermaine really polished him to have great character. When I got my first chance to talk to LaMelo and watch him play last summer at the Drew League for the No Shnacks, I saw a future NBA superstar. More specifically, I saw greatness in the making while on the sideline to watch all of his games. This includes the Drew League Playoffs where he scored 24 points in the 4th quarter to rally his team back to force overtime in his 2nd playoff game.
That’s when I realized he was going to be the #1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
As we look forward for the NBA Draft, with the Bucks getting the #1 overall pick, will they draft LaMelo ball? We will find out soon!
