Who were the best players from day 1 of summer league?

Memphis 104, Hawks 88

Memphis Forward, Jaren Jackson Jr. was this years No. 4 pick from the University of Michigan State, and top performer of tonight’s game. Jackson Jr. showed that not only can he be an inside presence for Memphis, but that he can also stretch the floor with his shooting. Jackson Jr. finished the game with 29 points, 9-15 from the field and 8-13 from three. Jackson Jr. made a number of spot up, open and contested three-point shots. There was one three where Jackson Jr. came around one of his guards on the move, set his feet, was balanced, received the pass and knocked it down. It was very guard like. This was a great offensive debut for the Memphis forward. He really showed how well of a shooter he can be in the league.

Spurs 76, Jazz 92

Although the Spurs lost tonight, the best player on the floor was second year Spurs guard, Derrick White from the University of Colorado. Derrick White was the games leading scorer with 22 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. His play was overshadowed by the three-point making of the Utah Jazz. As a team the Jazz made 14 threes to the Spurs 6. White showed that he can play on and off the ball, but he’s a better off the ball player. White played with pace and was a play maker for the Spurs tonight. White also showed his versatility as a scorer by scoring from three, mid-range and around the rim. The Spurs have a solid offensive combo guard coming into next season.

Kings 98, Lakers 93

Second year player from the University of Kentucky, De’Aaron Fox played like an experienced guard out on the floor tonight. Fox helped lead his team to a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Fox looked more comfortable out on the floor. He was attacking the basket and did a sound job of controlling the game. There were a few times where Fox forced a couple of shots, but for the most part he got his team involved. His stat line showed it. Foxed ended the game with 6 assists. Fox shooting still needs improvement, however his finishing through contact has improved. Most of his layups was through contact. Although Fox jumper wasn’t falling he still found a way to pour in 23 points. Not only did Fox play well on the offensive end minus the turnovers (5) but also on the defensive end of the court. Fox finished the game with 3 steals.
