Skyler’s the Limit: Week 5 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

October 5, 2017

Week 5 is upon us already and most people can tell how their fantasy season is going to go unless they make moves or stay pat. If you’re having trouble deciding on who to start or sit this week you’ve found the right place for help!

Injuries really suck and we had a few major players suffer injuries this past week. For instance, we had Dalvin Cook unfortunately tear his ACL, Derek Carr has a fracture in his back, and Marcus Mariota came away with a hamstring injury. Luckily for Mariota he’s day to day while Carr is reportedly out 4-6 weeks, and Cooks is out all season. People do need to realize that although Fantasy Football is a fun game to play with friends or family, you should not take it too seriously where you are getting mad at a player for getting hurt. Instead, hope they recover and can come back stronger. Now that that’s off my chest let’s dive into this week’s start/sits. All my decisions are based on PPR (points per reception) scoring so don’t @ me.

QBs to start in Week 5:

Carson Wentz (vs. Cardinals): I was high on Carson Wentz and although he didn’t do anything special he was solid. What I like about Wentz is he can quietly give you rushing stats which is huge when it comes to QBs in Fantasy. In the four games Wentz has played in this season he’s run the ball 4+ times which can give you an extra 2-5 points potentially or even more if he can sneak one into the end zone. This week he faces a Cardinals defense that allows the 11th most points to QBs.

Jameis Winston (vs. Patriots): Jameis Winston could very well have his best season this year. They added a plethora of weapons around him and he looked very good this past week against a great Giants defense. Winston had 332 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions for 26.5 fantasy points. Hopefully he can repeat that against a Patriots defense that’s struggling with communicating and are allowing the most points to opposing QBs so far this year.

Under the Radar QBs:

Jacoby Brissett (vs. 49ers): I’m not going to say to start Jacoby Brissett over any clear-cut must start QB, but he’s a nice option for a Derek Carr owner who may have to stream QBs every week especially in deeper leagues. Brissett has not looked bad since being the starter for injured Andrew Luck. Brissett can also be a threat with his legs and has added two rushing touchdowns so he has potential to do that again against a 49ers defense that allows the 10th most points to QBs.

Joe Flacco (vs. Raiders): Joe Flacco is usually a QB to avoid starting but hear me out–Flacco is not a terrible QB to me no matter what everyone else thinks of him. Raiders are going to be without Derek Carr so I don’t see them being able to move the ball much against a good Ravens defense so that’ll give Flacco better field position and more scoring opportunities. Raiders also allow the 5th most points to QBs so their defense isn’t great.

QBs to sit in Week 5:

Andy Dalton (vs. Bills): Andy Dalton finally looked good but it was also against the Browns so that’s not saying much. You’re probably not starting Dalton unless you’re in a deeper league or your starter is hurt or on a bye. But if you are I’d find another option out there because he faces a tough Bills defense that is allowing the 2nd least points to QBs this season.

Blake Bortles (vs. Steelers): Blake Bortles is similar to Dalton where you’re probably not playing him unless you absolutely need to. Bortles has always been an inconsistent QB and he still looks the same this season. The Jaguars have become more reliant on the running game and Leonard Fournette to control the game so it takes the ball out of Bortles’ hands. Bortles faces a Steelers defense that allows the 3rd least amount of points to QBs and the game is in Pittsburgh so I’m avoiding Bortles.
