The Clippers curse is still alive as they have a 19 point meltdown in Game 6

September 13, 2020

As Game 6 of the Western Conference Semi Finals begin with the Clippers up 3-2 in this series after the Nuggets fought back from being down 16 points on Friday to come back from behind and survive to play a Game 6 today.

During the first half I noticed that the Clippers were playing hard with lots of effort and energy which completed a great run they had in the half. The Clippers when up as much as 19 points as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George led the team with the help of Green and Williams.

The Nuggets looked a little off in the first half but were able to maintain some consistency to keep themselves in the game. Nuggets young stars in Jokic and Murray have been playing good as well with the stand out play of Nuggets rookie Michael Porter Jr. I can say this now that the Porter Jr will be a good role player in this league or maybe be a good starter on a playoff team.

As we continue through this game I began to think about the reality of us watching a Western Conference Finals match up between both teams in Los Angeles but then the Clippers began slowing down on both sides of the ball.

I’ve been talking about one thing since this series began which is, the Clippers have NEVER made it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs in NBA history. I am not willing to bet against history especially Clippers history.

As the 3rd quarter was going down, the Nuggets just seem to have found they’re groove and when on a 15-0 run which cut the lead to 1 then the clippers started fighting back. Clippers when scoreless for almost 6 minutes to begin the 3rd quarter which is not a way you want to come out of the locker room on the chance to possibly send the Nuggets home and advance to your first Western Conference Finals.

I would like to say that Nuggets G Jamal Murray is gonna be an elite player in this league. He has been magnificent in these playoffs as he has put the Nuggets on his back in this 2nd half to rally them back from being down 19 points. The Clippers curse is real and alive in the 4th quarter as the Clippers are putting shots up and they go in and out. It’s been 50 years of life for the Clippers organization and are completely choking as the 4th quarter is winding down.

Watching back to back games in this series with the Clippers blowing to big leads which on Friday they blew a 16 point lead and today they blow a 19 point lead. This has to be one of the biggest choking performances for the Clippers in franchise history. The meltdown they had reminded me of the time I was eating an ice cream cone in a 105 degree weather as it melted down my hands.

Kawhi began melting down in the 4th quarter as he was missing easy shots and finished with 25 points on 8-18 shooting in 41 minutes of play. Paul George had a good game with 33 points on 9-21 from the field in 39 minutes but just like every other clippers player who was melting down during the 4th quarter couldn’t hit a shot if his life depended on it to take the clippers to the next round.

As the series is now tie 3-3 with Game 7 on Tuesday and winner will advance to face the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Are the Clippers cursed? We will find out on Tuesday night.
