As we are 10 days away from the 2020 NBA Draft, after a long off season due to the Corona Virus that has shut down the country, we are finally going to get a chance to see the new young upcoming talent coming into the league.
There’s a clear #1 overall pick in this year’s draft, which is LaMelo Ball, who played one year in the NBL for the Illawarra Hawks as he was NBL 19-20 Rookie of the year and is the most talented player in the draft by far.
A Source said that the Warriors are interested in trading the #2 overall pick to the Pelicans for Jrue Holliday which makes perfect sense for both teams. The package can also include Andrew Wiggins going to the Pelicans, but the source did mentioned that they are very likely to keep him in the bay. This potential moves means a lot for the Pelicans, not only getting the #2 overall pick but getting a chance to draft the best player in the Draft in LaMelo Ball and pairing him up with his older brother Lonzo Ball who was traded from the Lakers last year.
Pelicans’ director of basketball operations, David Griffin, is looking to make major moves in his second year with the team. This potential move can move the Pelicans to the top of the West with a starting line up consisting of Lonzo Ball, LaMelo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, this team has the potential of beating any team on any given day.
Now let’s talk about who holds the #1 overall pick in the Minnesota Timberwolves who, according to my sources, has already met with the Timberwolves’ front office in Los Angeles not too long ago. It seems like LaMelo would be a better fit with his brother and Zion instead of going and teaming up with D’Angelo Russell and Karl Anthony Towns. Minnesota might have to go with Anthony Edwards or James Wiseman if LaMelo makes it clear to the Timberwolves that he is not interested in going there.
Another team also in the mix for trading up in the draft is the Detroit Pistons who hold the #7 overall pick in the draft. Pistons GM Troy Weaver has been open in saying he is very well interested in trading for LaMelo Ball. Jermaine Jackson, who is Ball’s Manager and also a Detroit native, Weaver mentioned that he is aware of Ball training in Detroit during the pandemic but it seems like it would be a harder move for the Pistons.
LaMelo has always made it clear that he wants to be in a big market but if he has the decision to go to Minnesota or New Orleans, he’s better off in New Orleans with Lonzo and Zion. The Warriors could benefit in acquiring Jrue Holliday which can make the Warriors very scary in the west with Curry, Thompson, Wiggins, Draymond and Jrue Holliday?
Lots of moves can be made before the NBA Draft but for now, it seems like LaMelo has a great chance to play with Lonzo in New Orleans if the Warriors decide to trade the pick.
The 2020 NBA Draft is set for Nov 18th at 8ET/5PT on ESPN.
