What type of player are the Pelicans getting in Troy Williams?
The Pelicans signing of forward Troy Williams was a good move on their part. Williams participated in this summer’s summer league with the New York Knicks.Williams was one of the best players for the Knicks in summer league.
Williams is a 23 year old, 6-7 athletic forward who plays with a motor. He’s constantly looking to make a play. Williams is more of a slasher than a shooter. Williams can make a jump shot if given the space, but he’s looking to get to the basket first. Williams is a both sides of the ball type player, and he gets on the boards.
When Pelicans fan watch Williams play they’re going to see a player who plays with an edge. Williams went undrafted in 2016. He’s been through the G-league and NBA. Last season Williams played for the Knicks, Rockets and Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
The G-league is where Williams showed out averaging 19.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. This summer for the Knicks Williams averaged 11.8 points per game and 4 rebounds per game. Williams can be a good piece player for the Pelicans. It won’t come to a surprise if Williams ends up starting sometime during the season.
