The Los Angeles Rams went into the NFL Draft with no picks on day one but still made the most of the picks they did have.
The Los Angeles Rams first pick didn’t come until the 3rd round but they still drafted well in positions of need. They began their draft by selecting Joseph Noteboom, offensive tackle from TCU. A round later the Rams would go on to draft John Franklin-Myers, defensive end from Stephen F. Austin at pick 135. In college Franklin-Myers compiled 37.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, 130 total tackles, and 5 forced fumbles. One of the more impressive feats was that he was named to the 2018 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for maintaining a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout his collegiate career. Les Snead, the GM of the Rams was on the Rams Facebook video series called “Behind the Grind” talking about their selection and said “John Franklin-Myers, he’s an explosive motherf’er”. I got to talk to and ask a few questions to the Rams 4th round draft pick to get to know him a bit.
Question: Where were you during the NFL draft? Who were you with?
Franklin-Myers: I was in Nacogdoches, Texas. I was with my family, best friends, and their family.
Question: Have a favorite NFL team growing up? Did you prefer being drafted by anybody?
Franklin-Myers: I never exactly had a favorite team. I am a defensive line fan, so growing up I was a Giants “fan” but naturally started to shift over to the Rams anyways because their defensive line is so good.
Question: How’d you feel when you received that phone call from the Rams? Did they say how they wanted to use you in their defensive scheme?
Franklin-Myers: I felt great, it was a sigh of relief and it motivated me even more to know someone thought that highly of me to choose me that early. They told me primarily 5 technique due to the fact they have some the the best interior defensive linemen in football.
Question: I saw your HS team went 0-40 in Greenville, Texas while you were there, how was that? Do you feel you were overlooked going into college because of that?
Franklin-Myers: Yes in a way, but some say I was too small, others say that since I couldn’t help my high school team win I wouldn’t be able to in college. That’s fine with me I used that as motivation to get where I am now.
Question: You’re a big guy you ever play any other positions? Ever wanted to?
Franklin-Myers: I played running back and tight end in high school. I always wanted to play QB I think everyone does though!
Question: You excited to live in LA? Ever been there?
Franklin-Myers: I was born in LA so it’s nice to go back to and recreate relationships with my brother and sister in California.
Question: Got any hobbies outside of football? Any interesting fact we should know?
Franklin-Myers: Just listen to my favorite rapper Don Trip.
Question: First thing you’ll buy with your new contract?
Franklin-Myers: Somewhere for my sister to stay, never been in to wasting money on cars, clothes, or jewelry.
Question: Any QB you want to be your first career sack?
Franklin-Myers: I think our first preseason game is against the Ravens so either Joe Flacco or Lamar Jackson whoever is out there.
Question: Favorite movie?
Franklin-Myers: 96 minutes
Question: Favorite show?
Franklin-Myers: Prison Break
Question: If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Franklin-Myers: I would stop time.
