LOSERS

Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes is a rookie QB that was drafted by the Chiefs 1oth overall this year. Many believed Kansas City was looking toward their future and that the drafting of Mahomes meant the near end to tenure as their quarterback, or at least as the starter.

What made this inevitable change more certain was Mahomes impressive performance in the preseason. Everyone was sure Smith’s time would soon come to an end in Kansas City and while that’s technically true (everyone’s time is up at some point), Smith’s performance against the Patriots proved he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Smith threw for 368 yards and had 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions on 28-of-35 passing.

And Smith executed on the deep ball, the one knock against him and the Chief’s most likely thought process in drafting Mahomes.

After Smith led Kansas City to a victory against the defending champions in Gillette Stadium, sit down rook, you’ll have to wait your turn.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts were blown out by the Los Angeles Rams Week 1 proving they have more than just a quarterback problem. The absence of had nothing to do with the 46 points they gave up on defense.

They did so against an offense that ESPN said was going to be the worst in the NFL. Of course after just one game for the Rams, they might end up with the league’s worst offense in the end. But the Colts’ defense made them look like the best offense in the entire NFL.

Speaking of offense, Indianapolis couldn’t muster up anything more than an early field goal and a late touchdown once the game was out of reach.

With or without Luck, the Colts are a team with a lot of work to do.

New York Giants

The Giants were a big disappointment Sunday night. They were without their best player, and looked like a shell of themselves.

Their offense put up a lowly three points, a number even the Colts did better than without Andrew Luck.

was sacked three times, threw an interception and had no touchdowns, and nNewcomer caught just one pass for ten yards.

The Giants’ defense was decent enough only giving up 19 points, but the offense proved to be one dimensional–and that dimension was on the sidelines watching.

The New Orleans Saints

The Saints were yet another disappointing team that put on a lackluster performance Week 1. Although they were playing on the road,  they still played below expectations of a and led team.

New Orleans gave up 29 points to the Minnesota Vikings and in turn only put 19 on the board.

Besides the fact the Saints don’t have a very good defense, they also struggled mightily in the run game. New Orleans only rushed for 60 net yards Monday night and that’s with and in tow. Ingram only had 6 carries for 17 yards and Peterson had 6 carries for 18.

During the game, Peterson showed his frustration with his touches by getting into a brief shouting match with Payton on the sidelines. Although he said it was just “communication” after the game, it seems as if there’s already tension building between the two and that Payton may not know how to utilize Peterson’s services.
